Student wins iPod in library competition

A third year student has won an iPod Touch for entering a competition run by the University Library.

Dental student Dami Bakare was presented with his prize by Union president Paul Tobin last week.

Dr Graham McElearney, learning technologist in Learning and Teaching Services, and Martin Lewis, director of Library Services, also attended the presentation to congratulate Bakare.

The competition ran last semester and asked students to suggest ways the library could use QR codes - which give information to students who have mobile phones with cameras - to improve their services.

After making a suggestion on the library blog for his faculty, Bakare’s name was drawn out of a hat by Tobin. All students who made suggestions were entered into the prize draw.

The library is now considering ways of putting students’ suggestions into practice.

The competition was sponsored by JISC, a company which encourages the use of digital technology in UK universities and colleges.
